Duplicating Blackboard Calendar to Personal Calendar

Issue/User Group/Environment

A student would like to take their calendar from Blackboard and add those events to their personal calendar.

Cause

The user may feel that it is difficult to view the Blackboard calendar regularly or checks their personal calendar more frequently.

Resolution

  1. When logged into Blackboard you will (1) click on your name in the top right corner to open a dropdown menu, and (2) select the calendar icon on the left side of the dropdown menu:mceclip0.png
  2. The Blackboard calendar will appear, marked with important dates for each of your classes. On the left side of this page you will see your courses, and beneath this you will see a button labeled “Get External Calendar Link” which you will click:                                          mceclip1.png
  3. A pop-up window will appear titled “Generate iCal URL. You will copy the URL address in the window:mceclip2.png

For Outlook:

  1. Open Outlook and select the File tab in the top left:             mceclip5.png
  2. (1) Within the Info section (2) select the Account Settings button and then (3) Account Settings again:mceclip6.png
  3. In the Internet Calendars tab, click the New button:mceclip7.png
    1. In the new pop out window, paste the URL address from Blackboard and select add:mceclip8.png
    1. Open Finder, select Applications under Favorites, and open the Calendar application.

      For Google Calendar:

      1. On your computer, open Google Calendar.
      2. In the top right, click Settings mceclip10.pngSettings.                    mceclip9.png
      3. Click “Add Calendars” tab on the left side, and select “From URL” in drop down.mceclip11.png
      4. Paste URL address from Blackboard into “URL of calendar” section, and click Add Calendar.mceclip12.png

      For Apple Calendar:

  1. Open Finder, select Applications under Favorites, and open the Calendar application.mceclip13.png
  2. Select File near the top left corner, and click “New Calendar Subscription”mceclip14.png
  3. Paste the URL address from Blackboard, and click subscribemceclip15.png
  4. Click the Location pop-up menu, then choose an account for the subscription.
    • If you choose your iCloud account, the calendar is available on all your computers and devices that are set up with iCloud.
    • If you choose On My Mac, the calendar is saved on your computer.
  5. To get the calendar’s event attachments or alerts, deselect the appropriate Remove checkboxes.
  6. Click the Auto-refresh pop-up menu, then choose how often to update the calendar.
  7. To prevent alerts from appearing for this calendar, select “Ignore alerts.”
  8. Click OK.
    • To make changes later, click the name of the calendar, then choose Edit > Get Info.
